About Me
My name is Diemer. I love traveling and exploring new cultures so in 2019 I decided to make a 8 month trip through Eastern Europe. So more or less half way I ended up in Ukraine. I visited many cities all over the country and my last city was Lviv. I immediately fell in love with the city and decided to come back later. That first time was in 2021. I decided to stay as long as tourist so spent the 90 days here. It was covid however so somewhat quiet and I couldn’t do that much. Time passed and I ended up in Georgia for 1,5 year during the war. In late 2023 a friend was telling me she was volunteering here and somewhat impulsively I decided to move to Lviv to volunteer as well. So, a few weeks later I already arrived. It felt like home right away and I volunteered at Lviv Voluntary Kitchen for 3 months. With my limited Ukrainian I had to translate for other foreign volunteers who didn’t speak Ukrainian at all. It was a fun time and I met many great people from all over the world.
After 3 months I had to leave again but I decided to come back later and live here for a longer time. That was in the summer of 2024. Because several other volunteers already went through the whole visa process, it was relatively easy because I knew what to do and where to go. Because more people started to move here, I decided to create this website to make life a little easier. It is all based on my experience, what other volunteers shared in Whatsapp groups and what I learnt through the expat FB group. So it will be more or less summarized and grouped together here.
What I Love About Lviv
As someone who loves history, architecture, good food and languages Lviv is a great combination of all. The city has a lovely vibe and feel to it because of the many old buildings and streets. You can find a million coffee places all over the city, lots of great restaurants from different cultures and there is always something interesting going on. Also not to forget: the genuinely kind and interested people. Every time I meet new people they are interested in my story and why I came here. They are also pleasantly surprised when I speak Ukrainian as foreigner. While the language is closer for people from surrounding countries, it is completely different from what most people grew up with.
I hope you love Lviv as much as I do!
